It was an enthraling night ( my time) to watch on TV how Roger tamed the 20 year old rising star from Serbia Novak Djokovic in the last Tennis major championship of the year - the 2007 US Open.

He is just 2 more slams away from the record 14th won by Pete Sampras and is the first player in the open era to win 4 consecutive US Open championships. The ladt person to do so was Bill Tilden .

I waited till late night to watch the match as I thought it was time for the new generation to take over and only Novak could beat the unstoppable Federer. The match started slowly as none wanted to attack for the first 4 games. It was Djokovic who drew first blood by breaking Federer’s serve for the first time.

It was evident that federer was not playing his best of tennis which was more visible from the 3rd set of his Semi-Final match against Nikolay Davydenko. On that set Nikolay showed the vulnerability of Federer as he constantly kept Roger on the baseline and just played solidl. Nikolay showed that- if you play solidly and do not make much mistakes - Roger gets frustrated and is prone to hit unforced erros!

I imagined Djokvic would have watched that match and would learn from it. But - though Roger played really bad- he broke back immediately after he was broken thus taking the initiatives away from Novak. Djokovic had 7 set-points in the first two sets but could not convert sinlge! - What a pity.

The final scoreline read - 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 in Roger’s favor.

What an end to an anti-climax! The first few games and first two sets brought hopes of an improbable upset asFederer was not hitting the balls as well as he could. But he is the ultimate king- his bad days are still better than good days for other players.

Go Roger Go- You can win the French Open too in 2008 - best of luck.

If the inhabitants of this delightful, rainy town can stand one Sunday of silliness, a second one won’t upset. Think people would go up against if the tournament made the first Sunday “Village Sunday” and gave people first dibs on tickets depending on the situation, it might even get worse. Further important, the increased volume of matches would destroy the court. If the weather is adequately cheerless, one roof won’t be enough.

The four-time defending champion, Roger Federer has lost five sets at this tournament since 2003, and has never had himself anything more than a mildly aggressive match. He needs no favors at Wimbledon. Wimbledon has called matches on the middle Sunday of the tournament on three occasions. It had fallen behind owing to rain in the first week. As doubtfully as it was for Nadal or anyone in his half to upset Federer before this tournament started, it might now take a sensation. The tournament remained on schedule; both the men and the women would have completed the fourth round. The women would have played their quarterfinal matches on Tuesday and the men on Wednesday, followed by the women’s semifinals on Thursday and the men’s semifinals on Friday. Because of Saturday’s rain, players in the bottom half of the men’s draw must play on Sunday, Monday in third round, and then Tuesday in fourth round, and Wednesday in quarterfinals. Why, though, can the Wimbledon tournament adjust to falling behind, yet not pay compensation in progress for almost definite chaos? The women’s draw would undergo, too, and it’s possible, though still mind-boggling at this point, that the women’s final won’t occur on Saturday. If no one plays on Sunday, the finalist from the bottom half might have to compete from Tuesday through Saturday. If rain washes out Tuesday, the tournament might have to move the final to give the bottom half enough time to work itself out, or require two matches in a day. A rainout on Monday and Tuesday, which is a distinct possibility according to the forecast, might ruin any chance of a champion up-and-coming from the bottom half if the tournament isn’t extended into a third week: The winner would have to notch five victories in five days, Wednesday through Sunday. Heck, veterans Wayne Arthurs, 36, and Jonas Bjorkman, 35, might need two sunny days to finish their third-round match, which promises long stretches without breaks of serve. Unless the weather improves radically, they’re both done for. Yet somehow the grim forecast couldn’t encourage tournament officials that it might be a good idea to play yesterday. The reasoning was simple: the tournament was “sufficiently on schedule” and in no need of a special session that would upset the inhabitants of Wimbledon, which is mobbed by visitors each year.

Ideas such as this will go before the UEFA’s new strategic council in June and a final decision will be taken in September.

It is still not something to be excited about for other countries since it would need the agreement of the clubs, leagues and national associations so if they support it, it will go forward or it might just disappear. A number of clubs have already expressed an interest in this situation.

UEFA’s new strategic committee will have representatives from European’s football governing body, the players’ union FIFPro, the leagues and the clubs. It will also be asked to look at an idea put forward by UEFA president Michel Platini that would see the lowest qualifying teams from England, Italy, Spain, Germany, France and Portugal playing off against each other for three places in the group stage of the Champions League.

Author: Tyler Benson

Every day we get up, have our breakfast and rush like mad to whatever destination. We don’t care about anything that is outside of our field of work.

But when it comes to health we run like crazy to the hospital, forgetting about our daily routine. Now it is quite clear to us that we have to keep fit and stay healthy to keep up with the speed of living today. Someone buys a dozen of pills and remedies and crawls in bed with hope to get well soon and someone starts doing sports, tries to have a healthy lifestyle.Doing sports doesn’t really mean that you have to spend the whole day in the field or pitch running, jumping, making new records and winning the Olympics. To be frank, not every person has the nerve to do it. When we say sports, we mean simple physical exercises, that help us stay healthy slim and fit. A lot of argumentative essays can be written to prove the absolute necessity of some physical exercise, especially today, when we mostly come to work, sit with comfort in the chair till the rest of the day and then wonder where from did these extra kilos appear? But neither argumentative essay, nor discussions will make you think that way. You have to get the idea to do sports into your heads by yourself firmly. You can find a number of exercises on-line, in various books, on TV; even buy a video tape with necessary movements. If you don’t have time to do it, just revise memories from your past (PE classes) and use it to get started. If you feel like you can use something unusual to get to know something new and to keep fit, you can use yoga or Indian dance. You have two pluses here: you get to know just a bit of the culture and feel that your body becomes flexible and slender.

If yoga or any other exotic art is too much for you, you can try simple aerobics. You can join a team and work out two-three times a week. This is also a good chance to make new acquaintances and enjoy some time in a good company. If you are a very busy person, you may use a video tape and have some good looking girl or handsome boy guide you on your way to a good figure. It is also a nice idea to reunite with your old friends and play some ball games in the free time. You’ll love to have a soccer match and than chat with those whom you attended high school with. If you feel obliged to do exercises just to keep fit, you may just drop the idea because you’ll se no result.

If you have no desire to work out and do sports, no matter how you try, you will never achieve positive results. To reach your aim you have to start from the corresponding attitude. Besides, no one can say that sports are boring and not worth even watching. Then why do we stay glued to the TV screen, watching the Olympics. We shout for our favorite athletes and deep inside feel that jealousy, which you can’t bear. And when you see an athlete wearing a medal you imagine yourself taking the prize. Do sports and you’ll achieve your goal. Not necessarily your golden medal in sports, but maybe some results in other field where you are the best.
