Budget Web Hosting - Are They All Created Equal?

June 26th, 2007

By Joe Duchesne Platinum Quality Author

Choosing a budget web hosting company can be overwhelming. In fact, choosing any web hosting company can be a challenge due, in large part, to the fact that there are so many of them. Do a search for “web hosting” with the quotes around the keywords on Google, and it’ll return over 5 million documents! That doesn’t mean there are 5 million web hosting providers but there very well could be at least 1 million! That’s a lot of web hosts. How can you choose one that meets your need?

What is Budget web hosting anyway?

Budget web hosting is generally defined as any hosting service that is below $10 per month. The budget comes from the low price. Now, most companies in the budget web hosting category only offer one year plans. Most budget web hosting companies however, will quote you the monthly fee you would pay if you divided the annual fee by 12 months. Keep that in mind when you are comparing one company with another. The other thing to look out for is the setup fee. Do they charge you a setup fee to get started?

Evaluate your general impression of the company.

The first place to start evaluating budget web hosting companies is their front page. Does their website give you a sense that they are professional? Is it easy to find all of the information you need? Take a look at their contact information. Do they list a physical address, an email address and a phone number to contact them? If they don’t provide any contact details, that has to throw up a red flag. If you run into problems setting up your website, and you have no proper contact information, how are you going to get service from that company?

Do they have a toll free support number?

Does the budget web hosting company provide a toll free number for you to contact them? If they are based in Atlanta, Georgia and you are in Seattle, Washington, you don’t want to be paying long distance to them if you need to get them on the phone about a concern you have. A toll free number also speaks to their willingness to deal openly and honestly with their customers.

What kind of guarantee do they offer?

Choose a budget web hosting company that offers a good guarantee. Most budget web hosting companies don’t openly publish their satisfaction guarantees. If you have to look in their terms and services agreement to find out where they stand with regard to giving you back your money if you are not satisfied, you should look elsewhere.

What is the uptime guarantee of the site in question?

Uptime guarantee refers to the amount of time the server is live and serving your web pages. An uptime guarantee of 99% means that the host guarantees that their servers will be up and operational 99% of the time. Over the course of one year, 99% uptime would represent a downtime (the one percent) of around 87 hours in a year or an average of 7 hours per month. An uptime of 99.9% would involve only 8 hours of downtime for the entire year.

What kind of after sale support can you expect?

While there are many other factors you could consider, the final one I will deal with is after sale support. What kind of resources do they make available for you. Find out if the budget web hosting company offers free scripts. Do they have any marketing tools they can make available to you? What kind of support for setting up your account can you expect from the budget web hosting company? All of these factors must be taken into consideration.

Just because a company offers a budget web hosting service, doesn’t mean you necessarily have to compromise on features, quality or service. All three will only be found, however, if you make sure to do your homework to find a budget web hosting company that is a good fit for you.

June 26th, 2007

By Oliver Turner Platinum Quality Author

Hosting a website is important as it helps you to get easy and fast traffic for your website. Whatever business you are beginning, preparing a website, hosting it and getting the required traffic for it will help you to get success in your business easily.
General introduction
Hosting a website is important as it helps you to get easy and fast traffic for your website. Whether you are beginning with a small-scale business or a large scale organization, web hosting services are the most reliable and affordable way to get your website prepared and attract traffic within less time. There are web-hosting providers who provide the best web hosting services in quite less price with 30-day money back guarantee in case of any problems.
Common questions regarding hosting a website
Best web site hosting offers a series of questions in the mind of the service seeker. You should get a service that will best suit your needs and purposes. You should keep a backup copy of the files in your computer in case of any problem. Your question can include further information about the type of equipment or software that will be needed to set up the site. You need an UPS [Uninterrupted Power Supply] source that acts as a big battery to provide the server with power for 30 minutes or more. There is also special software that monitors the servers and restarts them if they quit serving pages.
Another important question about best web hosting services can include about the domain specifications and the number of domains that can be hosted per account. A domain name is basically a website address that becomes the URL [Uniform Resource Locator] of the site. If you have 2 domain names and want to go for the same site again, then you will be charged extra for the domain names. However, if you plan to host several sites, then you can ask for a volume discount or about a reseller package.
Other questions poised by the customers
If you are interested to know about the uploading of your files to the account, then you should know better about the 24 hour FTP process. As for the log files or Stats, the hosting companies either provide you with raw logs for your account or provide you with some sort of online statistics. Make sure that the logs contain specific information about search engines on words and phrases used, how long the visitor stayed in the particular website, the entry pages, number of page visits, broken links and errors, and exit pages.
To know more about the cheap inexpensive web hosting services you should contact different service providers who will offer you with a range of best web hosting services and their estimated prices. You can choose the best web site hosting services that will suit your purposes.
Once you have got replies to all these questions, you will experience the best web site hosting services.

How To Make An Intelligent Choice For Your Web Hosting Company

June 26th, 2007

By Gregg Hall Platinum Quality Author

If you do business on the internet one expense you cannot get away from is web hosting. It is also crucial to the reputation, success, and survival of your online business that the service be reliable. I know from experience what a poor quality web host can do to your business as I have had experiences when launching a new site and have the server go down. Let’s go over some of the items that you need to be most concerned about.

One of the biggest considerations is that of Network Uptime. Personally, I only do business with companies that have a 99% uptime, they are few and far between but well worth the investment and the time it takes to find them. Uptime refers to the percentage of time their servers are live and online, they will occasionally have to install software and reboot servers but this should be minimal.

The next issue is a big one with me and that is customer service. If I can’t get someone on the phone I will not do business with them. If I have a problem I want an immediate response to it. Read testimonials and check to see what other clients they have. Look up their ratings online and check them out with the Better Business Bureau and find out how many years they have been in existence.

Make sure that you have a contract that stipulates that you can increase Disk Storage and bandwidth. You may start with only one or two websites and then need to increase as your business grows so you want to make sure that the company is flexible and will allow you to make adjustments as needed. These two factors are probably the most important considerations when looking for a web host.

You will also want to be sure that the company provides the scripts needed to operate your sites properly and that they run the same Operating System you do. Some of the scripts are specific to certain operating systems such as Access for forms which only works in Windows. You also want to have high quality statistics reporting so that you can track your results and keep up with bandwidth.

Make sure that the Control Panel is easy to use and has the tools you need to help you with your websites. I personally prefer cPanel and have used it for years. I would also suggest making sure that the company provides the Fantastico service, this makes setting up blogs and forums a breeze.
